Subject: Call for Nominations for Funded Participation: 5th Global
Forum on Reinventing Government: Workshop on New ICTs and e-
Government, Mexico City, 5-6 November 2003
I would like to draw your attention to a new website of the Division
for Public Administration and Development Management [DPADM/UNDESA):
http://www.unpan.org/dpepa-kmb.asp
It introduces the Knowledge Management Branch at a time when we are
trying to introduce to the United Nations Secretariat a new theme,
that of knowledge systems and knowledge management at the national
level and its relation to development. The website also highlights
the ongoing work of the Branch on the subject of e-government
strategy and application development at the regional, national and
local levels.
This website is in its formative months but we invite you to bookmark
it and look it up occasionally, to see if our progress is relevant to
your work.
I am writing specifically to solicit your kind assistance. At the top
of the right-hand menu in the website you will see two "calls".
One is a call for self-nominations of e-government managers from the
developing countries to participate in the Ad Hoc Group of Experts
Meeting on "New ICT and E-Government" that will be held in
conjunction with the 5th Global Forum on Reinventing the Government
in Mexico City, 5 - 6 November 2003. We would be greatly obliged if
you could post the nomination call to your respective websites and
networks. We will fully fund 20 such participants (air tickets and
DSA for the full duration of the forum from 3-7 November).
Second is a call for posting of descriptions of e-government
applications. Again, we would be most grateful if your websites and
networks could alert managers of e-government applications of the
opportunity to have descriptions of their applications posted on the
UN website. We believe that nothing like "the best practice" exists
in this area. So, we are going to accept description of any
functioning e-government application, provided that this description
follows the outline, as per the website. We are looking for
applications in all possible categories so the current roster of
categories should not discourage anyone. If a description comes and
relates to a category that does not exist in our "roster" ? we will
create a new entry and post the description under it in the web site.
Procedures for both self-nominations and posting descriptions of
e-government applications are provided in the website.
Thank you in advance for your kind cooperation.
Regards,
Jerzy Szeremeta
Chief, Knowledge Management Branch
